US President Donald Trump appeared to be in high spirits upon his arrival in Malaysia, even joining in a traditional dance accompanied by the rhythmic beats of the kompang — one of Malaysia’s signature musical instruments.
Stepping off Air Force One at the Bunga Raya Complex of Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) for his first official visit to Malaysia, Trump waved cheerfully before being greeted by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. The two leaders exchanged warm words as they walked past the Honour Guard of the Royal Malay Regiment (RAMD), with Anwar introducing Trump to several members of the Malaysian Cabinet.
As they passed a group of dancers performing a traditional welcome routine, Trump surprised everyone by spontaneously joining in the dance. His light-hearted moves drew cheers and laughter from those present.
At one point, Trump lifted both the American flag and Malaysia’s Jalur Gemilang, waving them proudly as a gesture of friendship between the two nations.
After the welcoming ceremony, Trump and Anwar departed in The Beast, the heavily armored presidential limousine, accompanied by the sound of bagpipes on their way to the summit venue.
Trump’s visit, held from October 26 to 27, comes at Anwar’s invitation as Malaysia chairs ASEAN 2025. The trip coincides with the 13th ASEAN–U.S. Summit and the 20th East Asia Summit — marking Trump’s first visit to Southeast Asia since returning to office as the 47th President of the United States in January.
During his stay, Trump is also scheduled to hold a bilateral meeting with Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.
