Education Minister Rules Out Home-Based Learning For Now

Date:

Schools in Malaysia will continue with in-person learning for now, with no immediate shift to home-based teaching and learning (PdPR), the Education Ministry confirmed.

Minister Fadhlina Sidek clarified that the ministry has not decided to implement PdPR, citing concerns from past disruptions during the COVID-19 pandemic that negatively affected student progress. “Work from home (WFH) and PdPR are two different matters. At present, learning will continue as usual,” she told reporters after a media engagement session.

Fadhlina emphasised that the government’s priority remains recovering from previous learning disruptions and that any new policies will be carefully considered to maintain student learning quality.

The announcement comes amid reports that the government is reviewing a WFH proposal for the public sector in light of the ongoing West Asia geopolitical crisis, with a decision expected at a Cabinet meeting.

During the event, Fadhlina also highlighted key initiatives under the new Malaysia Education Blueprint (RPM) 2026–2035, including the creation of a national student leadership council to represent student voices at district, state, and national levels. “Student input is crucial for the successful implementation of the RPM’s plans and policies,” she said.

The session also included Aidilfitri donations to 20 children with autism at the PERMATA Kurnia Centre and concluded with a breaking of fast with media practitioners.
