Fahmi Fadzil Reviews Papagomo’s Posts After Defamation Case Settlement

Date:

The legal team representing Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil is currently examining recent social media remarks made by Wan Muhammad Azri Wan Deris following the resolution of their defamation case on Monday.

Fahmi revealed that he has received numerous reports from various parties highlighting fresh comments posted by Wan Muhammad Azri across platforms such as Facebook and TikTok. He said his lawyers are now assessing whether those statements may have breached the terms agreed upon during the court settlement.

He explained that two out of three lawsuits filed in the matter have already been resolved, namely those involving Mohd Fauzan Madzlan and Wan Muhammad Azri. However, he expressed concern over the online activity that surfaced shortly after the settlement was reached.

Fahmi described the situation as troubling, noting that he was contacted by several individuals who shared screenshots of the posts. With assistance from others, he has since compiled the content uploaded by Wan Muhammad Azri across multiple platforms for further review.

Speaking to reporters after court proceedings at the Kuala Lumpur Court Complex on Tuesday, Fahmi added that he had completed giving his testimony in the ongoing trial involving preacher Ahmad Dusuki Abd Rani. He said additional witnesses are expected to take the stand, with the trial likely to conclude within two days.

Earlier, the defamation suits filed by Fahmi against Mohd Fauzan, who operates the Facebook account ‘N13 Kuang’, and Wan Muhammad Azri were settled at the High Court after all parties reached an agreement. However, legal proceedings against Ahmad Dusuki are continuing after both sides failed to reach a settlement.

According to the writ of summons filed on 5 September 2023, Fahmi alleged that all three defendants had published defamatory statements accusing him of misusing a mosque for election campaigning and acting against the decree of the Sultan of Selangor. The claims were said to have been posted on various social media platforms between 31 July and 1 August that year.

Fahmi maintained that the allegations were baseless, citing confirmation from the Majlis Agama Islam Selangor that he had not delivered any political speech within the mosque’s prayer area, contrary to the claims made.

As part of his legal action, Fahmi is seeking general, aggravated, and exemplary damages, as well as an injunction to prevent the defendants from repeating or republishing the alleged defamatory statements.
