No leader or member of People’s Justice Party will be shielded if found involved in abuse of power, its information chief Fahmi Fadzil has stressed.
He said the party’s stance is in line with the firm warning issued by PKR president and Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, who previously stated that no individual, including ministers, would be protected if implicated in misconduct.
Fahmi emphasised that investigations would proceed without interference and that prosecution would be carried out without compromise if any wrongdoing is established.
“Do not take advantage of your position or abuse the authority entrusted to you. Do not misuse your influence for personal gain, including using it under the pretext of checking licences or exercising power,” he said during the opening of the Federal Territories PKR division annual general meeting on Friday.
He reminded party members that they once stood against abuse of power and should not allow similar practices to take root within their own ranks.
Fahmi also cautioned leaders against forgetting their roots or becoming overly comfortable after attaining positions of authority.
He added that sudden changes in lifestyle without reasonable explanation could create negative perceptions among the public and damage the party’s image.
