Florida Airport Renamed After Donald Trump In Latest Tribute To US President

Date:

A Florida airport has officially been renamed after US President Donald Trump, marking another move by his supporters to place his name on public landmarks and government-related assets.

The former Palm Beach International Airport was renamed President Donald J. Trump International Airport on Thursday after the measure was signed into law by Florida Governor Ron DeSantis.

Trump’s son, Eric Trump, marked the occasion by arriving at the airport in the family’s private Boeing 757, known as “Trump Force One”.

Calling it a “beautiful day”, Eric said the airport’s new name reflected his father’s strong connection with Palm Beach and Florida, where the Trump family owns the Mar-a-Lago resort.

He also highlighted that the main road leading out of the airport had already been named President Donald J. Trump Boulevard, adding that travellers would now see the initials “DJT” on their flight details permanently.

The renaming received mixed reactions from travellers. Some welcomed the decision, saying Trump had achieved enough to have an airport named after him, while others criticised the move and said Palm Beach’s original name carried a stronger identity.

The airport change comes as Trump’s supporters continue efforts to attach his name to various public locations and institutions across the country.

On the same day, officials unveiled the Donald J. Trump Bridge in Tennessee, further expanding the number of landmarks carrying his name.

Other Trump-related changes have also taken place, including renamed government buildings, branded official programmes and plans for his image to appear on selected government materials.

The Treasury Department has also announced that Trump’s signature will appear on some US dollar notes later this year, which would mark another unusual step involving a sitting president.

Critics have raised concerns over the growing use of Trump’s name and image on public assets, comparing the trend to personality-driven politics often associated with authoritarian governments.

However, Eric Trump defended the airport renaming, saying controversy had always followed anything connected to the Trump name.

He added that his father felt honoured and humbled by the recognition.
