Former Malaysia Ambassador Nominee Nick Adams Handed New Diplomatic Role In Washington

Date:

United States President Donald Trump has officially appointed Nick Adams, a prominent right-wing influencer and self-described “alpha male”, as a new diplomatic envoy tasked with promoting American tourism. According to the State Department, Adams has occupied the role of Special Presidential Envoy for American Tourism, Exceptionalism and Values since 17 March. The newly established position is designed to showcase major US attractions, including national monuments and national parks, as the country prepares for its upcoming 250th anniversary of independence.

The appointment comes after a previous attempt by the Trump administration to nominate Adams as the US Ambassador to Malaysia. That nomination was eventually withdrawn following significant public scrutiny regarding Adams’ history of making Islamophobic remarks, which raised concerns given Malaysia’s status as a Muslim-majority nation. In February, Adams confirmed to international media that his bid for the ambassadorship in Southeast Asia had been pulled, though the White House has declined to provide specific reasons for the reversal.

Adams has built a substantial following within the “manosphere”, an online subculture focused on hyper-masculinity and “alpha” personas. He is widely known for his vocal support of stereotypical masculine symbols, frequently posting about his preference for rare steaks and his advocacy for the restaurant chain Hooters. During the previous year, he even proposed a “Presidential Taskforce” to preserve the chain amidst economic challenges. However, observers note that Adams has recently tempered his online persona, scrubbing some of his most incendiary posts to align with his new diplomatic responsibilities.

White House spokesperson Davis Ingle described Adams as an “America First patriot” who is well-suited to advance American excellence on the global stage. An Australian immigrant who became a naturalised US citizen in 2021, Adams was formerly a local politician in Australia before being ousted from the centre-right Liberal Party for conduct deemed damaging to the party’s reputation. Despite his controversial past, he remains a favourite of President Trump, who authored the foreword to Adams’ book, Alpha Kings, and has praised him as a preferred speaker.

In a social media statement issued on 24 March, Adams expressed his commitment to his new role, stating that he intends to reignite domestic love for the country and project American values to the world. While it remains unclear if the position is a salaried role, Adams continues to be a staunch supporter of the current administration’s policies. His transition from an internet provocateur to a formal representative of the State Department marks a unique shift in the administration’s approach to cultural and tourism diplomacy.
