Government Assures Fuel And Food Supplies Remain Stable Despite Global Uncertainty

Date:

The government has assured Malaysians that the country’s fuel supply remains sufficient until at least August, while efforts are being intensified to safeguard energy and food security amid ongoing global uncertainties.

Economy Minister Akmal Nasrullah Mohd Nasir said the assurance follows close coordination with industry players to ensure that fuel supplies remain stable and that the needs of consumers as well as key economic sectors continue to be met.

He said the government is also carrying out daily monitoring of essential goods and fuel supplies in collaboration with Petronas and industry stakeholders to closely track stock levels and respond swiftly to any potential disruptions.

According to Akmal Nasrullah, Malaysia’s rice supply, including the national buffer stock, remains under control and is sufficient to last between five and six months.

He added that supplies of essential food items, including chicken, eggs, fish, milk and fruits, are also adequate for at least one month.

Speaking in the Dewan Rakyat on Monday during a briefing on the global supply crisis, the minister stressed that the government continues to closely monitor developments to ensure domestic supply chains remain resilient.

He also revealed that prices of essential goods are being monitored through the PriceCatcher platform, which tracks 316 products across more than 2,000 retail outlets nationwide.

The monitoring programme is supported by 850 Price Monitoring Officers who regularly collect and verify pricing information to ensure consumers receive accurate and up-to-date data.

Akmal Nasrullah added that enforcement against profiteering and smuggling has been strengthened to prevent irresponsible parties from exploiting global economic pressures to impose unreasonable price increases on consumers.

He said the government remains committed to protecting the public from supply disruptions and excessive price hikes while maintaining stability in the country’s essential goods market.
