The Human Resources Ministry is awaiting a full report from the Higher Education Ministry on Monday’s blast at HELP University before deciding on further assistance for the victims.
Human Resources Minister Datuk Seri R. Ramanan said the ministry would assess the appropriate support once the report is received.
“We will allow the Higher Education Ministry to manage the matter first before the Human Resources Ministry steps in with additional assistance,” he said after the ministry’s New Year address at Menara Perkeso yesterday.
Also present were Deputy Human Resources Minister Datuk Khairul Firdaus Akbar Khan and the ministry’s secretary-general, Datuk Azman Mohd Yusof.
One victim, Soo Yu Juan, 24, a Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman student who was undergoing an internship with an air-conditioning maintenance company, died while receiving treatment at Kuala Lumpur Hospital.
Nine others were injured in the incident, including four students.
The Higher Education Ministry has previously stated that it views the incident seriously.
Separately, the Social Security Organisation (Perkeso) confirmed that two injured victims — Teh Wee Leon, 32, and Liew Yeng Chen, 55 — are eligible to receive Temporary Disablement Benefits.
Perkeso said both individuals are contributors under the Lindung Pekerja scheme, with assistance being coordinated through the Perkeso Prihatin Squad.
However, Perkeso noted that the remaining three injured victims are not contributors under the scheme.
