Former economy minister Rafizi Ramli has said he may request the police to halt their investigation into the attack on his son last August if there continues to be no meaningful progress.
In a post on X, Rafizi said he did not want frontline police officers to continue spending time on the case, noting that they were “merely following orders”.
“If it becomes clear that the investigation is going nowhere, I will personally write to the prime minister, the home minister and the police to propose that the investigation be stopped and the case classified as ‘NFA’ (no further action),” said the former PKR deputy president.
Rafizi’s 12-year-old son was attacked at a shopping mall in Putrajaya at around 2pm on Aug 13, 2025. CCTV footage later showed two men on a motorcycle following his wife’s car before the incident occurred.
On Wednesday, home minister Saifuddin Nasution told the Dewan Rakyat that he could not publicly disclose details of the investigation, but said the information had been shared with Rafizi during a meeting last month.
In his social media post today, Rafizi confirmed that the meeting took place on Dec 1 last year.
“During the meeting, he shared details on the directions taken by the police investigation and its progress, but said he was unable to make them public,” Rafizi said.
He added that he took no offence at Saifuddin’s statement in Parliament, describing it as “the administration’s response”, and acknowledged that certain details had been conveyed to him privately.
Rafizi also remarked that the case could eventually fade from public attention once interest wanes.
