‘I’m Home’: Khairy Rejoins UMNO After Membership Reinstated

Date:

Former UMNO Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin has expressed gratitude following the decision by UMNO’s Supreme Council to reinstate his party membership, marking a notable moment in the party’s ongoing efforts to reunify its ranks.

In a brief reaction, Khairy said, “Alhamdulillah. Thank you to the President and the Supreme Council,” in response to the decision made by the Majlis Kerja Tertinggi (MKT) under the Rumah Bangsa initiative. The move signals a broader attempt by UMNO to rebuild internal cohesion after a period of division.

Taking to Instagram on Friday night, Khairy posted another short message, “I’m home,” hinting at his return to a party where he once held significant leadership roles. The post quickly drew attention, reflecting public interest in his political comeback.

Khairy is among 6,252 former UMNO leaders and members who have been readmitted into the party, including prominent figures such as Hishammuddin Hussein and Syed Hamid Albar. The reinstatements are part of the Rumah Bangsa concept introduced by UMNO president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

Previously, Khairy had formally applied for his expulsion to be revoked and for his original membership number to be restored. The request was made in the spirit of the Rumah Bangsa initiative and submitted directly to the party president during a meeting held last month.

He reportedly conveyed appreciation for the opportunity to return and continue contributing to the party’s struggle in service of religion, race and nation, reinforcing his commitment to UMNO’s core principles.

For context, Khairy was expelled from UMNO in January 2023 following internal decisions made after the 15th Malaysian General Election. His return is widely viewed as a significant development, potentially reshaping the party’s internal dynamics and sparking speculation about his future role in Malaysia’s political landscape.
