Negeri Sembilan UMNO chairman Datuk Seri Jalaluddin Alias has dismissed claims that he was involved in any attempt to undermine the Menteri Besar or the state’s royal institution.
Jalaluddin said the allegations were baseless, especially after Barisan Nasional (BN) successfully secured victory in the Negeri Sembilan state election last Saturday.
He stressed that he had no intention of pursuing the Menteri Besar position and had already stated that he did not wish to accept any executive council (Exco) post.
“Why are these accusations continuing to be made against me? If there is any truth to the claims, then show the evidence,” he said.
The Pertang assemblyman was responding to allegations that he had pressured Menteri Besar Datuk Ismail Lasim to sign a document seeking the removal of Yang di-Pertuan Besar Negeri Sembilan Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir.
Jalaluddin explained that the decision by 14 BN-UMNO assemblymen to withdraw support for former Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun was made after losing confidence in his leadership, particularly following issues involving the state’s traditional institutions.
He firmly rejected claims that the move was linked to any attempt to remove the Yang di-Pertuan Besar, urging all parties not to make unfounded accusations.
Jalaluddin said his main objective was to see BN return to lead Negeri Sembilan, adding that he was satisfied after achieving that goal and would not take any action that could destabilise the administration he had worked to establish.
He called on all parties to move forward following the formation of the new state government and focus on ensuring smooth governance for the people.
Jalaluddin also reiterated that he accepted the decision not to be appointed as Menteri Besar and expressed his support for Ismail Lasim as the new state leader.
He added that he would continue serving the residents of the Pertang state constituency after being given another mandate by voters.
