The Road Transport Department (JPJ) has strongly denied claims that it had proposed allowing Rohingya people to obtain driving licences in Malaysia.
In a statement on its official Facebook page, JPJ said the claim followed the circulation of content titled “JPJ Cadang Benarkan Rohingya Ambil Lesen Memandu” (“JPJ Proposes Allowing Rohingya To Obtain Driving Licences”) posted by an account called Along Auto Parts.
The department said the content was presented in a manner resembling an official news report and could mislead the public.
“JPJ takes seriously any actions by parties that produce, modify or distribute content using the department’s name, identity or images in a manner that could undermine its credibility,” it said.
Following the circulation of the content, JPJ said it had lodged a report with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to facilitate further investigation and appropriate action.
The department also urged the public not to share information whose authenticity cannot be verified.
Instead, members of the public are advised to refer to JPJ’s official channels for accurate and verified information.
