The Road Transport Department (JPJ) is ramping up continuous patrols and monitoring efforts to ease traffic congestion and prevent accidents during the Deepavali festive holidays.
JPJ Director-General Datuk Aedy Fadly Ramli said all state JPJ offices have been instructed to increase patrol activities throughout the festive period.
“I’ve discussed with JPJ Senior Director of Enforcement, Datuk Muhammad Kifli Ma Hassan, and we’ve agreed to implement ongoing monitoring and patrol operations,” he said.
He added that JPJ will work closely with highway concessionaires to help ensure smoother traffic flow for road users.
Speaking to reporters after overseeing the Op Khas operation targeting overloaded commercial vehicles at the Banting Enforcement Station on Tuesday, Aedy Fadly also reminded motorists to drive cautiously, especially with the expected surge in traffic volume.
Earlier, Sinar Harian reported that the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) expects around 2.1 million vehicles to hit the roads nationwide starting October 18, in conjunction with the Deepavali holidays.
Bukit Aman Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT) Director, Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri, said Op Lancar will be carried out from October 17 to 21 to ensure smooth traffic flow throughout the festive period.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Higher Education announced that universities, polytechnics, and community colleges will observe flexible teaching and learning (PdP) sessions for the festival.
Additionally, the Ministry of Education has allocated one to two extra school holidays, creating a long break of up to five days for students in Peninsular Malaysia and four days for students in Sarawak, from October 17 to 22.
