JPJ Warns: Only One Official Way To Buy Car Numbers — Others Are Fake!

Date:

The Road Transport Department (JPJ) has clarified that it does not recognize any resale of vehicle registration numbers conducted through unofficial platforms, stressing that all legitimate transactions must be made exclusively through the official JPJeBid system.

Deputy Transport Minister Datuk Hasbi Habibollah urged the public to obtain vehicle registration numbers only via official JPJ channels to ensure transparency and prevent exploitation.

“The resale of registration numbers for profit after a legitimate bidding process is considered a private transaction and falls outside JPJ’s control,” he said during his winding-up speech on the Auditor-General’s Report (LKAN) 3/2025 for the Ministry of Transport in Parliament today.

Hasbi explained that JPJ only allows the transfer of registration numbers in specific cases, such as when the original bidder passes away and the number needs to be transferred to an immediate family member.

He was responding to concerns raised by Datuk Mohd Isam Mohd Isa (BN-Tampin), who highlighted the emergence of online syndicates involved in reselling vehicle registration numbers and manipulating the eBidding system.

Hasbi further emphasized that JPJeBid operates fully online and is fully automated, with no human interference. Only registered and verified bidders are allowed to participate.

“To prevent misuse, JPJeBid limits the number of successful bids — a maximum of five numbers for individuals and three for companies per bidding series,” he said.

The Deputy Minister added that JPJ continues to monitor the management and revenue generated through the JPJeBid system. Numbers that remain unregistered after the expiration period will be relisted for new bidding, ensuring that government revenue is not affected.

He also revealed that JPJ is developing a new system called eBaki, which will allow the public to purchase unsold or leftover registration numbers from previous series.

“This eBaki system will serve as an additional platform for JPJ to offer unsold numbers back to the public,” he said.
