Kelantan Says Only RM30 Million Approved For KB Central, Not RM250 Million Announced Earlier

Date:

The Kelantan state government has clarified that the Federal Government has only approved RM30 million for the Kota Bharu Central (KB Central) development project, rather than the RM250 million announced last Saturday.

Kelantan Public Works, Infrastructure, Water and Rural Development Committee chairman Datuk Dr Izani Husin said the approved amount was stated in the official approval letter received by the state government.

“The allocation approved by the Federal Government for this project is RM30 million, not RM250 million as previously mentioned,” he said.

He also revealed that the RM500 million allocation previously announced by the Prime Minister had yet to reach the state government, which was still waiting for the disbursement process to be completed.

Izani was speaking during the winding-up session of the 2027 Kelantan Budget debate at the Kelantan State Legislative Assembly (DUN) yesterday.

He further hoped that the good relationship between Kelantan Menteri Besar Datuk Mohd Nassuruddin Daud and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim could help resolve the state’s claim for petroleum cash payments under the 1975 agreement.

According to Izani, Kelantan could potentially receive up to RM2 billion annually from resources linked to the Joint Development Area (JDA).

He said realising the state’s entitlement would strengthen its financial position and help fund infrastructure development, address water supply problems and improve public facilities.

“State development is not a matter of charity, but a shared responsibility in the spirit of a federal nation.

“What we are demanding is not merely an allocation, but the rights and responsibilities that must be fulfilled for the development and well-being of the people of Kelantan,” he said.

Previously, Utusan Malaysia reported on October 31 that the Federal Government had approved RM250 million for Kelantan to help complete KB Central.

The announcement was made by Anwar during the Sebarkan Salam@Kota Bharu Berselawat 2026 programme at Masjid Jamek Muhammadi.

Anwar had also said that a notification letter confirming the allocation’s approval had been delivered to Kelantan Menteri Besar Datuk Mohd Nassuruddin Daud.
