Passengers using e-hailing services at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) will now pay a standard vehicle entry fee of RM2, inclusive of tax, at both Terminal 1 and Terminal 2.
The new rate takes effect today, replacing the previous charges of RM3 at Terminal 1 and RM2.16 at Terminal 2.
Malaysia Airports said the move was aimed at making things easier for passengers and e-hailing operators while improving the efficiency of passenger pick-ups at both terminals.
The airport operator also reported significant improvements in e-hailing operations at Terminal 1 following upgrades introduced in August.
Within just one month, 99.3% of e-hailing drivers were completing passenger pick-ups and leaving the area within the designated 10-minute grace period, compared with 49.4% previously.
The number of vehicles entering the passenger pick-up lanes each day also fell by 13.5%, from 8,124 to 7,024 vehicles.
Malaysia Airports said the figures reflected better operational control, including fewer unauthorised activities, unnecessary vehicle movements and instances of vehicles remaining stationary for extended periods.
The upgraded system has also increased peak-hour processing capacity from 302 to 660 vehicles per hour, allowing vehicles to be rotated more quickly and passenger pick-ups to run more smoothly.
KLIA Senior General Manager of Passenger Experience Abd Hasman Abd Muhimin said the continued improvements to the airport’s e-hailing facilities reflected the operator’s commitment to providing passengers with a smoother travel experience while keeping operations orderly, efficient and responsive.
“At KLIA, every aspect of the passenger journey matters, including the experience of travelling to and from the airport.
“By providing a comfortable indoor waiting area for passengers and giving drivers sufficient time, we are seeing better compliance, faster vehicle movements and smoother traffic flow,” he said.
The upgraded Terminal 1 facility includes a Licence Plate Recognition (LPR) system integrated with Passenger Information Display Screens (PIDS), self-service kiosks, designated waiting and pick-up areas, as well as on-ground personnel.
The improvements have also strengthened access monitoring and control to ensure that only authorised e-hailing vehicles use the designated passenger pick-up facilities.
E-hailing vehicles will continue to be given a maximum of 10 minutes in the passenger pick-up area to keep traffic moving, ensure pick-up bays remain available and streamline the collection process.
