Malaysia Plans Bold Rafah Aid Mission to Break Gaza Blockade

Date:

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced that Malaysia will formulate a new strategy to deliver humanitarian aid to Palestinians, including potentially using land routes through Rafah, Egypt.

The strategy is part of Malaysia’s efforts to break through the “barriers” imposed by the Israeli regime, following the interception of the Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF) delivering aid to Gaza by Israeli forces.

Speaking at the “Solidarity With Gaza” gathering at Axiata Arena, Bukit Jalil, Anwar said Malaysia will explore all diplomatic avenues, including contacting Egyptian President Abdul Fattah al-Sisi to negotiate Rafah as an entry point for humanitarian missions.

“I believe this strategy is crucial. After presenting the budget, next Monday or Tuesday, I will call my team to discuss how the mission can reach Egypt to breach the Rafah barrier,” he said.

“After negotiations, I will also reach out to the President of Egypt to facilitate the humanitarian mission. This sends a message that we support the struggle of the people of Gaza, of Palestine. The world cannot remain silent. This is not the era of barbarism but of civilization. We must provide them with food, water, schools, medicine, and places of worship,” he added.

Approximately 20,000 people attended the solidarity event, which also saw 23 GSF volunteers who had just returned to Malaysia, along with Cabinet ministers and senior government officials.

Earlier, the Director of the Sumud Nusantara Command Centre, Datuk Dr Sany Araby Abdul Alim Araby, submitted a memorandum to the Prime Minister requesting government support for the second and third waves of the Sumud Nusantara humanitarian mission to Palestine. The memorandum specifically asked Anwar to leverage his relationship with President al-Sisi to allow Rafah to be used as a passage for aid.

“We request permission for the Sumud Nusantara Malaysia team to deliver aid through land routes. We have no other option and are ready, God willing,” he said.

For future waves, the volunteers asked Anwar to act as a “Chef de Mission” to ensure Malaysia plays a central role in delivering aid and rebuilding Gaza once a ceasefire is achieved.

This initiative highlights Malaysia’s ongoing commitment to supporting Palestinian civilians amid escalating humanitarian crises.
