The Federal Government will decide tomorrow whether to appeal the High Court ruling that entitles Sabah to 40 percent of the state’s revenue, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced today.
Speaking at the Malaysia Digital roadshow, Anwar, who also serves as Finance Minister, said a special Cabinet meeting has been scheduled to hear the Attorney-General’s advice before any decision on filing an appeal is made.
“I have called the meeting for tomorrow. We will first hear the Attorney-General’s statement on whether to appeal or not. For me, it is acceptable even if we choose not to appeal. The final decision will be made after consulting all Cabinet members,” he said.
Anwar acknowledged certain shortcomings and limitations in the matter but urged understanding from all parties.
“The court has directed us to negotiate, and I said that is acceptable. We will negotiate. But as of today, who do we negotiate with? The Sabah government is currently a caretaker government. After the state election on November 29 and the formation of the new government, I will instruct that negotiations be conducted immediately,” he added. — Bernama
