The main vessel of the Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF) humanitarian mission, known as the Family Boat, was reportedly attacked by a drone in Tunisian waters, causing a fire while en route to Gaza.
According to Rahmat Ikhsan, also known as PU Rahmat, one of the participants in the mission, there were no injuries or casualties in the incident.
“One of our ships was hit by a drone and caught fire. Everyone remained calm, as there were no casualties. All Malaysians on board are safe,” he said on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, Ahmad Musa Al-Nuwayri Kamaruzaman, founder of Cinta Salam Malaysia (CSM) and also a participant in the mission, shared details on Instagram.
“The boat carrying Greta, Thiago, and Yasemin was bombed by a drone while anchored in Tunisia. No casualties have been reported. Please pray for their safety,” he wrote, referring to Swedish activist Greta Thunberg, Brazilian activist Thiago Avila, and German activist Yasemin Acar, who is also a steering committee member of GSF.
The mission began on August 31 from the Port of Barcelona, Spain, with 15 Malaysians among the volunteers.
The flotilla is part of the larger GSF initiative, which includes over 50 boats with volunteers from 44 countries, delivering food and medical supplies to Gaza. The convoy also includes Cinta Gaza Malaysia (CGM) CEO Muhammad Nadir Al-Nuri Kamaruzaman, singer Zizi Kirana, and actress Ardell Aryana.
