The Melaka state government will go ahead with its Aidilfitri Open House on 28 March as scheduled, confirmed Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh.
“The event will continue on the planned date to celebrate the festive season with the people,” he told reporters during the Chief Minister’s Moreh gathering at a local restaurant last night.
During the state government’s March assembly, Ab Rauf had announced that this year’s celebration will carry the theme ‘Melaka Sayang Rakyat’ and will once again be held at the Melaka International Trade Centre (MITC).
This comes despite a directive from Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim that ministries, agencies, and government-linked companies (GLCs) will not host Aidilfitri open houses this year as part of cost-saving measures amid global economic uncertainties linked to the ongoing conflict in West Asia.
