Police have stepped up patrols and monitoring around Langgar, Kota Setar, following reports of unexplained knocking sounds at residents’ doors and gates late at night that have gone viral on social media since Sunday.
Kota Setar district police chief Assistant Commissioner Syed Basri Syed Ali said police were aware of the claims and were investigating to determine the cause. So far, no official reports have been lodged by residents over the alleged incidents.
“Based on the information received, some residents claimed they heard loud knocking sounds on their doors or gates at night.
“Police are still investigating the cause and will also increase patrols and monitoring in Langgar and nearby areas,” he said on Tuesday.
The issue gained attention after a CCTV recording lasting about 2 minutes and 25 seconds was shared online, appearing to capture clear knocking sounds at a house despite no one being seen outside.
The incidents were reportedly experienced in several housing areas, including Taman Vistana, Taman Amira, Taman Awana and Taman Lelasari, extending towards Pekan Langgar.
A Taman Vistana resident, Shahira Azizan, 31, who also experienced the incident, said the knocking was so clear that she initially thought her husband was outside the house.
Syed Basri urged the public not to speculate or spread unverified information that could cause unnecessary concern among residents.
He also advised residents to strengthen security around their homes by ensuring doors and gates are properly locked, especially at night.
“Do not open your doors or gates without knowing who is outside, particularly if the person’s identity cannot be confirmed.
“If you notice suspicious activity or an unfamiliar person, do not take matters into your own hands. Prioritise your safety and that of your family and contact the nearest police station for assistance,” he said.
Members of the public with information about the incidents have been urged to come forward and assist police with their investigations.
Police also assured residents that patrols and monitoring would continue to safeguard the safety, security and wellbeing of the community in the area.
