The Health Ministry (MOH) has issued a warning against the ASGG Gluta Genc Glow Gummies after the product was found to contain glutathione — an ingredient not permitted in food under the Food Regulations 1985.
In a statement, MOH said glutathione is not listed under Table 12, Part 1, Regulation 26, which outlines allowed added nutrients in food products. Any item containing glutathione must instead be registered as a pharmaceutical product with the National Pharmaceutical Regulatory Agency (NPRA), meaning the gummies cannot be sold or advertised.
MOH’s review found the product being actively marketed on major e-commerce platforms such as Shopee, Lazada, and TikTok. As of 10 November, authorities have issued 121 requests to block advertisements promoting the item.
Under Section 13B(2)(d) of the Food Act 1983, food products cannot contain substances not permitted under the Act. Those convicted face penalties of up to RM100,000 in fines, up to 10 years’ imprisonment, or both.
MOH has urged all traders, including online sellers, to halt sales immediately and contact the nearest District Health Office for product seizure. Consumers currently using the gummies are advised to stop and seek advice from healthcare professionals.
The ministry also reminded the public to remain vigilant when purchasing food products online, as some may contain unauthorised or unsafe substances. Concerns or complaints can be directed to the nearest District Health Office, State Health Department, the SISPAA portal, or the Food Safety and Quality Programme (FSQP) Facebook page.
