Muda has decided not to contest in the upcoming Negeri Sembilan state election on Aug 1 after failing to secure a seat in the recent Johor state polls.
Muda president Amira Aisya Abdul Aziz said the party would instead support its partner in the “progressive bloc”, Parti Sosialis Malaysia (PSM), which will contest a single seat in the election.
PSM is set to field a candidate for the Rahang state constituency, while Muda will shift its focus towards strengthening the party and preparing for the next general election (GE16).
In a statement, Amira said the party believes the next nationwide election could take place in the near future, making it important for Muda to concentrate on building its political foundation.
She said the Johor state election showed signs of improved support for Muda compared with the 2023 state elections, when the party and PSM contested six state polls under an electoral partnership.
According to Amira, the outcome reflected that the ideas promoted by Muda and the progressive bloc were gaining acceptance among Malaysians.
The former Puteri Wangsa assemblyman added that the party would continue working towards expanding its influence and strengthening its position ahead of future political contests.
