There have been no reports so far of MyKad misuse in the redemption of government financial aid distributed through the national identification card, said Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil.
“So far, there have been no such reports, and the Ministry of Finance has not informed us of any incidents. This is why the government considers MyKad an effective mechanism to ensure that assistance, especially cash aid or the verification of citizens’ identity, is carried out securely,” he told reporters today.
He explained that this was one of the key reasons the government had chosen MyKad as the mechanism for the upcoming initiative to fix RON95 petrol at RM1.99 per litre. Further details will be announced by the Ministry of Finance.
Fahmi was speaking after officiating the Bakti Komuniti MADANI (Inspire Volunteerism Core Activation) programme at Dataran Kuala Haji Ibrahim, Seberang Perai Selatan, today.
Also present were Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek, Communications Ministry Secretary-General Datuk Seri Mohamad Fauzi Md Isa, and Director-General of the Department of Information Malaysia (JAPEN) Julina Johan.
In his speech, Fahmi stressed that MyKad is an efficient tool for distributing aid and subsidies since only Malaysian citizens are eligible to hold the card.
“Only Malaysians are entitled to MyKad. So, when any aid or subsidy is linked to it, the benefits go directly to the people without leakages or abuse,” he said.
At the same event, Fahmi laid the foundation stone for Laman Komuniti Madani, a community project built through local gotong-royong (mutual cooperation). He also engaged with more than 200 members of the local Madani community.
The Bakti Komuniti Madani programme, organised by JAPEN, was held in Penang for the first time and aims to strengthen volunteerism, unity, and togetherness within communities. The event featured various activities such as traditional sports competitions, a colouring contest, and free community services including motorcycle engine oil changes and haircuts.
Visitors also enjoyed Agro Madani sales and stalls run by local entrepreneurs.
