The defamation suit filed by former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak against former Attorney General Tan Sri Tommy Thomas was amicably resolved at the High Court here on Monday.
The lawsuit concerned allegations that Tommy Thomas’ memoir, My Story: Justice in the Wilderness, contained defamatory statements linking Najib, 73, to the murder of Mongolian national Altantuya Shaariibuu.
The settlement was recorded before High Court Judge Datuk Khadijah Idris after lawyers for both parties informed the court that an amicable resolution had been reached.
Speaking at a press conference, Najib’s counsel, Tan Sri Muhammad Shafee Abdullah, described the settlement as a victory for his client.
“This is because Tommy had previously acknowledged in court that there is no evidence linking the former UMNO leader to the murder of Altantuya,” he said.
“You may regard this as a victory, as the defendant has admitted that there is no evidence connecting Najib to the murder,” he added.
Muhammad Shafee said the settlement should put an end to all speculation surrounding the former Pekan Member of Parliament, who hails from Pahang.
