Former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s application to suspend the execution of his sentence for offences involving the misappropriation of 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) funds will be heard on Oct 14.
High Court judge Noor Ruwena Md Nurdin fixed the date during a case mention today.
“The application has been filed and fixed before me. It was filed with a Certificate of Urgency, so I will set a date within two weeks. The parties may exchange their submissions at any time within that period before the hearing,” she said.
Najib’s application concerns the 15-year prison sentence and RM11,387,888,067.05 fine imposed in connection with his 1MDB case.
On Dec 26, 2025, High Court judge Datuk Collin Lawrence Sequerah, who is now a Federal Court judge, sentenced Najib after he was convicted on all 25 charges involving the misappropriation of 1MDB funds.
If Najib fails to pay the fine, he could face an additional 10 years in prison for each charge.
The 15-year sentence was also ordered to begin after he completes his existing prison term for offences involving funds belonging to SRC International Sdn Bhd.
Najib was represented during today’s proceedings by lawyers Tan Sri Muhammad Shafee Abdullah and Muhamad Farhan Shafee, while the prosecution was led by Deputy Public Prosecutor Mohamad Mustaffa P Kunyalam.
