Najib Razak’s eldest son, Datuk Mohamad Nizar Najib, expressed shock at the heavy sentence handed to his father in the 1MDB abuse of power and money laundering case.
In a video posted on Facebook today, he said the family found the 15-year prison term and RM11.4 billion fine unexpectedly severe.
“Considering my father’s contributions to the country, this is a disappointing decision. I believe his service should also have been taken into account,” he said.
He also pointed out that the main mastermind, Low Taek Jho, remains at large, while other alleged accomplices have turned witnesses. “Think about it—this is the challenge and trial my father is facing,” he added.
Despite the verdict, Mohamad Nizar affirmed that he and his siblings will continue to defend their father until justice is served. He prayed for Najib to remain strong and for the family to be granted the strength to overcome this trial.
He also thanked supporters of Najib and Malaysians nationwide for their encouragement and blessings.
