The Ministry of Home Affairs has announced that the National Integrated Immigration System (NIISe) will be implemented in stages at all air, land, and sea checkpoints nationwide beginning 31 March. This strategic move aims to fortify national border security through a digitalised immigration framework that promises to be more efficient, rapid, and user-friendly. The transition marks a significant leap in Malaysia’s efforts to modernise its entry-point protocols and streamline traveller processing through advanced technology.
According to a statement released by the ministry today, the rollout will commence with a pilot phase at selected high-traffic locations to ensure operational stability. The Senai International Airport in Johor will represent the air mode starting 31 March 2026, followed by the Bukit Bunga ICQS Complex for land travel on 31 May 2026. The maritime sector will see its first implementation at the Puteri Harbour International Ferry Terminal on 30 June 2026, marking a comprehensive coverage of all transport modes.
The decision to proceed with the phased rollout follows a highly successful trial period that took place between September 2025 and February this year. During this testing phase, the system’s readiness was rigorously evaluated, confirming that the infrastructure is capable of being expanded nationwide. Key high-impact initiatives were introduced during this time, including the development of the MyNIISe mobile application and the installation of advanced eGate facilities at major international airports to expedite passenger clearance.
Additional strategic enhancements under the NIISe umbrella include the implementation of QR code systems at the Sultan Iskandar Building (BSI) and the Sultan Abu Bakar Complex (KSAB) in Johor. The ministry also highlighted the activation of the Advance Passenger Screening System and the establishment of National Immigration Command Centres in Putrajaya, Kuching, and Kota Kinabalu. To ensure data integrity and resilience, a high-standard Disaster Recovery Centre has been integrated into the system’s core infrastructure.
Public adoption of these digital tools has been remarkably high, with the MyNIISe application recording over 1.7 million downloads and nearly 900,000 registered users as of 17 March 2026. This user base includes a significant number of Malaysian and Singaporean citizens, reflecting the system’s importance for regional connectivity. The Ministry of Home Affairs encourages all travellers to download the MyNIISe application early to ensure a seamless experience as the government continues its commitment to the Malaysia Madani vision of enhanced national security.
