NGOs Storm MOTAC HQ, Demand Tiong King Sing’s Immediate Resignation Over Alcohol Scandal

Date:

A coalition of non-governmental organizations (NGOs) has renewed calls for Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing to resign immediately as Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture (MOTAC) following the recent controversy over the serving of alcohol at an official government event.

The group, led by Selangor PAS Youth Deputy Chief Dr. Aubidullah Fahim, gathered in front of the MOTAC headquarters demanding that Tiong issue a public apology to Malaysians for what they described as a disrespectful act.

“We feel deeply insulted and disappointed that alcoholic beverages were openly served during the Global Travel Meet 2025 Gala Dinner. This act is clearly a provocation and an insult to Islam,” Aubidullah said on Friday.

He added that the incident had tarnished Malaysia’s image internationally as a Muslim-majority nation. “Serving alcohol at an official government function goes against the Federal Constitution and existing laws,” he asserted.

Aubidullah also urged the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to launch a full investigation into the event’s organization, funding, and actual expenditure. “There must be transparency so the public can know who was behind what happened,” he said, emphasizing that responsibility should be held at the ministerial level, not merely among government officers or agencies.

The controversy erupted after a video showing alcoholic drinks being served at an official government gala went viral, sparking widespread outrage and political backlash.
