No Peace Talks Until Guns Fall Silent, Says Thai PM

Date:

Thailand’s acting Prime Minister Prawit Wongsuwan has declared that negotiations with Cambodia are impossible until ongoing border clashes come to a halt.

Prawit clarified that Thailand has not declared war on Cambodia and that the conflict has not spread beyond the border region. However, he condemned Cambodia for launching attacks with heavy weaponry into Thai territory without a clear objective, which resulted in civilian casualties.

He added that the Thai military has been fully mobilized to defend the nation’s sovereignty in the conflict zone. The government has authorized the armed forces to take necessary actions within the bounds of international law.

Prawit emphasized that any diplomatic talks can only happen once the violence stops. He reiterated Thailand’s commitment to peaceful resolutions and a dialogue-based approach.

Meanwhile, Cambodia claimed that a Thai F-16 fighter jet dropped two bombs on a road within Cambodian territory, though casualties remain unconfirmed.
