Deputy Education Minister Wong Kah Woh has clarified that he was not the MP referred to in the morning rebuke by Deputy Speaker Datuk Dr Ramli Mohd Nor in the Dewan Rakyat.
Wong, who is also the Taiping MP, explained that he had only joined the parliamentary session in the afternoon after attending a sitting in the Special Chamber.
“I just ‘clocked in’ after the Special Chamber session,” he said, following a clarification from Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul regarding the incident that caused the misunderstanding.
Earlier, Ramli was reported to have reprimanded two deputy ministers for chatting during the question-and-answer session while Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail was responding to questions in the morning sitting.
During the royal address debate, Speaker Johari clarified that Wong was not involved in the incident.
“I want to make an announcement: I did not witness what happened this morning, but the Deputy Speaker had reprimanded two deputy ministers for talking in the House, referring to the deputy ministers of the Ministry of Education (KPM) and the Ministry of Housing and Local Government (KPKT).
“I received a note from the Deputy Minister of KPM confirming he was not involved. So, I want to correct that—he was not part of the incident,” Johari said.
Wong then thanked Johari for the clarification and reiterated that he was not present in the Dewan Rakyat during the morning session.
“I hope the parliamentary record and Hansard can be corrected,” he said.
Johari confirmed that the parliamentary records would indeed be amended.
