More than 26,000 applications have been submitted for early entry of six-year-olds into Year One within just three days of the opening of registration for the 2027 academic session.
Director-General of Education, Datuk Dr Mohd Azam Ahmad, said the Ministry of Education (MOE) has also received over 165,000 applications for seven-year-old pupils entering Year One.
He noted that both cohorts have shown encouraging response since online registration commenced on 15 February.
“As of the third day of registration, MOE has recorded 165,906 applications for children born in 2020 who will turn seven in 2027.
“For the category of six-year-olds born in 2021 applying for early admission into Year One, we have received 26,229 applications,” he said when contacted by Buletin TV3 today.
Mohd Azam added that parents of six-year-olds who miss the online deadline may submit manual applications from 1 April to 15 November, provided their children are deemed ready for schooling.
Parents may liaise directly with the District Education Office (PPD), State Education Department (JPN) or their preferred school regarding placement matters.
He further explained that placement coordination for appeals will be conducted by PPD between 1 and 30 September.
Appeals may be considered on several grounds, including relocation, the need to place siblings in the same school, or other reasonable circumstances.
Meanwhile, parents uncertain about their six-year-old child’s readiness are encouraged to seek professional advice from schools or education officers.
“The ministry, through schools, PPD and JPN, stands ready to provide professional guidance to help parents make the best decision for their children,” he said.
Online registration for Year One intake for the 2027 academic session remains open until 31 March via the Integrated Ministry of Education System (MOEIS) at idme.moe.gov.my.
