PAS Rejects Claims of Secret Talks With PM Anwar as Perikatan Unity Questioned

Date:

PAS has dismissed claims that it held special discussions with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim amid reports of internal tensions within Perikatan Nasional (PN).

PAS central committee member Datuk Ahmad Amzad Hashim said the issue had never been raised in either official or informal party meetings.

Speaking to Utusan Malaysia, Ahmad Amzad said he had not been informed of any engagement between PAS and the prime minister during PAS central committee meetings held every three months, nor during special meetings he attended.

“So far, there has never been any report or discussion about meetings with the PMX in PAS’ official forums,” he was quoted as saying.

He clarified that meetings involving PAS leaders such as Terengganu Menteri Besar Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar and Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor with the prime minister were routine administrative engagements related to state governance.

“Meetings involving a menteri besar are official in nature and concern state interests. They should not be interpreted as political negotiations or party-level discussions,” he said.

Ahmad Amzad, who is also the Kuala Terengganu MP, was responding to claims by Jeli Umno Youth information chief Wan Mahusin Wan Zain that PAS had held talks with Anwar following PN’s alleged internal crisis.

He said the matter had never surfaced even in informal conversations among party leaders.

“I consider the claim to be speculative and unfounded,” he said.

Ahmad Amzad added that PAS remains focused on strengthening PN and advancing Muslim unity, while positioning the coalition as a stable political force rooted in Malay support and open to cooperation with moderate non-Malay partners.
