The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) has confirmed that an arrest warrant has been issued for businessman Datuk Seri Muhammad Adlan Berhan, and efforts are underway with foreign authorities to bring him back to Malaysia.
Inspector-General of Police, Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail, said investigations revealed that Muhammad Adlan is currently abroad, and police are collaborating with international counterparts to resolve the case.
“It’s well known that he is overseas. The arrest warrant has already been issued, and we are now working closely with the relevant countries. Insya-Allah, we’ll do our best to resolve this matter,” he said during a press conference after inspecting preparations for the upcoming 47th ASEAN Summit at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre.
He was responding to reports claiming that Muhammad Adlan — who is the son-in-law of former Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin — has been living a luxurious lifestyle in a Middle Eastern country since fleeing Malaysia over two years ago.
When asked if PDRM had received any updates from Interpol regarding the Red Notice application submitted by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), Mohd Khalid said there had been no new developments.
“So far, we haven’t received any updates. Perhaps MACC can provide more details on that,” he added.
According to a report by the New Straits Times (NST), Muhammad Adlan, who is wanted by MACC for criminal breach of trust (CBT) charges, is believed to be living lavishly in the Middle East. Photos shared with NST allegedly show him mingling with prominent local figures, including one image featuring a portrait of the country’s leader.
Sources told NST that Muhammad Adlan frequently travels in and out of the country, making trips to Thailand for golf sessions and shooting range visits.
MACC Deputy Chief Commissioner (Operations), Datuk Seri Ahmad Khusairi Yahaya, previously said that investigations began on March 13, 2023, following an official report. Between May and August 2023, investigators repeatedly tried to contact Muhammad Adlan through calls, WhatsApp messages, and official letters, but he failed to appear at MACC headquarters.
After his repeated no-shows, MACC obtained an arrest warrant from the Shah Alam Magistrate’s Court on September 7, 2023, and later applied for an Interpol Red Notice via the Attorney General’s Chambers (AGC), submitting the full documentation in October 2023.
