PDRM Proposes Traffic Fine Discounts for Public Who Report Offences

Date:

Members of the public may soon enjoy traffic fine discounts if they actively report road offences, following a proposal put forward by the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM).

In an infographic shared on PDRM’s official Facebook page, the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department suggested introducing rewards or merit incentives for individuals who come forward with information on traffic violations.

Among the proposed incentives are discounts on traffic summonses for frequent reporters, as well as the allocation of merit points or other forms of benefits. The initiative is aimed at encouraging greater public participation in road safety enforcement efforts.

According to PDRM, the move is intended to position the public as the “eyes and ears” of the authorities in strengthening compliance with traffic laws. The proposal also includes the possibility of formally recognising individuals who contribute information to enforcement agencies.

The suggestion follows discussions on making dashboard cameras, or dashcams, mandatory for road users. The infographic highlighted several advantages of installing dashcams, noting that recorded footage can serve as valid evidence in accident investigations and hit-and-run cases, while also expediting the identification of offenders.

PDRM believes the widespread use of dashcams could improve overall road safety, as motorists are likely to drive more cautiously when aware that their actions are being recorded.

The police have invited members of the public to share their views on the proposed reward system via the comments section of PDRM’s social media platforms.
