Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow confirmed receiving an apology message from a state executive councillor allegedly involved in a domestic assault case reported yesterday, allowing the couple to address the matter privately.
Chow said the matter has been referred to the police for proper investigation.
“I received a message from the Honourable Member apologising, noting that this was a family matter between husband and wife,” he said, adding that both parties had filed police reports.
He also confirmed that the state assemblyman is cooperating fully with the authorities and that both parties have since withdrawn their reports. “As of now, that is all I can comment on,” he added.
When asked whether the Exco member should be temporarily relieved of duties or continue in office, Chow said the administration takes the matter seriously and expects the individual to maintain open communication with both the state government and their political party.
“If the couple wishes to take further action or make other arrangements, we respect their process. At this stage, we are waiting for them to decide on the best course for their family,” he said.
