PAS may use its own party logo in the upcoming Melaka state election if Perikatan Nasional (PN) is unable to contest under its coalition logo.
PAS central election director Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor said the proposal had yet to be finalised and would be discussed at a party meeting next Monday.
He said the decision would also depend on developments involving PN’s logo and the Registrar of Societies (RoS).
“I heard PN secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan has filed a lawsuit against the RoS. We will wait for the outcome. If there is no other choice, we will use the PAS logo,” he said.
“The logo is no longer something people are afraid of. Even Mount Everest has seen the PAS logo being brought there,” he added.
Sanusi, who is also Kedah Menteri Besar, was speaking to reporters after a handover ceremony for land titles and house keys under the Desa Sejahtera Perik housing programme in Mukim Kurong Hitam on Thursday.
On cooperation with Umno for the Melaka state election, Sanusi said PAS was considering two possible arrangements based on the political formulas used in Johor and Negeri Sembilan.
He stressed that any cooperation must ensure fair and balanced sacrifices from all participating parties rather than favouring one side.
“There are only two formulas: the Johor formula or the Negeri Sembilan formula,” he said.
“If we maintain the status quo in Melaka, then the status quo should also be maintained elsewhere. That would be fair and equitable.
“Whatever sacrifices you make, we must make the same amount of sacrifices. If you want things to be unfair in our areas, that is not right. My calculation is simple. There is no need to create tension; everyone can get on with their respective work,” he added.
Whether PN can use its coalition logo in the Melaka election remains dependent on developments with the RoS.
Takiyuddin was previously reported to have said that PN was seeking a meeting with the RoS director-general and requesting clarification from the agency over the matter.
