The Perak government will strictly enforce a ban on the sale of single-use plastic bags starting March 1. Business operators caught selling them after the grace period will face action.
Teh Kok Lim, Chairman of the State Science, Environment and Green Technology Committee, said a six-month adjustment period will be provided to allow traders to adapt before enforcement by local authorities begins.
“Once the directive is finalised, selling single-use plastic bags will no longer be allowed,” Teh stated at an event at Aeon Big Falim. He encouraged traders to offer recycled bags if necessary.
The move is aimed at promoting environmental sustainability and reducing plastic pollution across the state.
The ban was originally planned for January but was postponed to March 1 to give the public and businesses more time to prepare, following the announcement made on March 20 last year.
