Pakatan Harapan (PH) Johor has finalised nearly 100 per cent of its candidate lineup for the upcoming 16th Johor state election, with the majority of candidates expected to be new faces.
Johor PH chairman Aminolhuda Hassan said only one or two state seats remain unresolved, including Puteri Wangsa, which is still being discussed between AMANAH and PKR.
He said the official list of candidates is scheduled to be announced next Monday.
“DAP has already completed 100 per cent of its list, and PH is also almost done. Only one or two seats are still pending, including Puteri Wangsa,” he said.
Aminolhuda, who is also Sri Gading MP, said PKR has expressed interest in contesting Puteri Wangsa, despite the seat traditionally being linked to Larkin.
He added that PKR is expected to contest around 20 seats, while DAP and AMANAH are projected to take 17 and 19 seats respectively.
Aminolhuda said 75 per cent of AMANAH’s candidates are new faces, including a significant number of young and local-born individuals.
Nearly half of these first-time candidates are aged 40 and below, reflecting the coalition’s push for younger representation.
When asked about his own candidacy, he said he is open to contesting if a suitable seat is offered.
“If I am requested and the seat is suitable, I may consider it,” he said.
Meanwhile, PKR Johor chief Datuk Seri Dr Zaliha Mustafa said she is prepared to stand in the state election if instructed by the party leadership.
She stressed that her main focus is not on candidacy but on ensuring a PH victory in Johor.
“For now, whether I contest or not is not my priority. As a party member, I am always ready if called upon,” she said.
Dr Zaliha added that PKR Johor leadership is currently focused on securing victory for PH candidates in the upcoming polls.
In the previous Johor state election held in March 2022, Barisan Nasional (BN) formed the state government after winning 40 of the 56 seats. PH secured 12 seats, with DAP winning 10, while PKR and AMANAH won one seat each. Perikatan Nasional (PN) won three seats, and MUDA secured one.
