PKR Bureau Chief Urges Ahmad Samsuri To Reflect On ‘Non-Partisan’ Proposal

Date:

The Chairman of the PKR Religious Understanding and Empowerment Bureau, Amidi Abdul Manan, has called on Perikatan Nasional (PN) Chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar to practice self-reflection regarding his recent political conduct. This call comes as the nation prepares for potential economic turbulence resulting from ongoing conflicts in the Middle East. Amidi suggested that Ahmad Samsuri’s proposal to establish a non-partisan council to navigate these global uncertainties is contradictory given his previous criticisms of the Federal Government’s support for Terengganu.

According to Amidi, a true non-partisan approach requires prioritising national interests over political affiliations, which includes offering support for national successes regardless of party lines. He questioned where Ahmad Samsuri’s non-partisan voice was when Malaysia’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) exceeded expectations in the fourth quarter of 2025. Amidi also pointed out that the PN leader remained silent despite significant increases in Foreign Direct Investment (FDI), choosing instead to label the Federal Government as oppressive to mask regional economic challenges in Terengganu.

The dispute follows a suggestion by Dr Ahmad Samsuri for the government to adopt a neutral platform, such as a National Economic Consultation and Intervention Council. The Terengganu Menteri Besar argued that the Middle East conflict is already causing direct impacts on the global economy, including rising energy prices and supply chain disruptions. He maintained that these factors are increasing logistics and operational costs across various sectors in Malaysia, necessitating a unified national response that transcends party politics.

In a statement released on Monday, Amidi countered that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has been working tirelessly to fortify the national economy, achieving various milestones that have benefited the country. He criticised Ahmad Samsuri for failing to acknowledge these successes, suggesting that the PN leader’s silence stems from a fear of losing voter support. Amidi argued that such an attitude is inherently partisan and drags national economic interests into narrow political squabbles rather than fostering genuine cooperation.

Amidi concluded by urging the opposition leadership to have confidence in the Prime Minister’s efforts, which he claims are designed for the greater good of Malaysia. He emphasised that the current global economic climate requires leaders to look beyond party boundaries and support initiatives that ensure national stability. The exchange highlights the growing tension between government and opposition figures as they debate the best administrative framework to handle the fluctuating international landscape and its domestic repercussions.
