PKR Founder Ng Lum Yong Labels Rafizi Ramli The “Most Failed Minister”

Date:

In a stinging critique of Malaysia’s economic leadership, PKR founder Ng Lum Yong has officially described Pandan Member of Parliament, Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli, as the most unsuccessful minister during his tenure. Rafizi served as the Minister of Economy from December 2022 until June 2025, a period that Lum Yong claims was marked by a lack of tangible results. The veteran political figure noted that after observing the minister’s performance for nearly three years, it is evident that the promises made during the 15th General Election (GE15) have remained unfulfilled.

Lum Yong alleged that while Rafizi was quick to introduce various economic “formulas” and theoretical frameworks, these were never successfully translated into effective implementation for the benefit of the public. He argued that the former minister’s approach relied heavily on rhetoric and “big talk” rather than the structural reforms that the Pakatan Harapan (PH) manifesto had initially guaranteed. According to the founder, this failure to deliver has led to a significant disconnect between the ministry’s stated goals and the actual economic reality faced by Malaysians.

The statement, released on Monday, further accused Rafizi of being dishonest and motivated primarily by self-interest rather than a genuine loyalty to the people. Lum Yong claimed that Rafizi’s current political trajectory has shifted toward attacking Prime Minister and PKR President Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to deflect from his own administrative shortcomings. He noted that while Rafizi continues to voice criticisms, the Prime Minister has maintained a dignified silence, choosing not to engage in retaliatory public disputes with his party colleague.

Beyond policy failures, Lum Yong questioned Rafizi’s overall suitability for leadership, suggesting that he lacks the qualities of a true politician dedicated to public service. He described the Pandan MP as a figure who is “lost” and has effectively become a tool for critics of the current administration. The PKR founder warned that Rafizi’s persistent negative commentary could have a detrimental impact on public perception and national stability, especially as support for his specific brand of politics appears to be waning.

The critique highlights an internal rift within the political landscape as former allies scrutinise the effectiveness of the nation’s economic management between 2022 and 2025. Lum Yong’s remarks serve as a stern reminder of the high expectations placed on the Ministry of Economy to produce concrete improvements in the lives of citizens. As the political narrative evolves, these allegations of failed manifestos and ineffective leadership are expected to fuel further debates regarding the accountability of high-ranking government officials.
