A Selangor PKR delegate has called on the party to revive the use of its own logo in upcoming elections, beginning with the Melaka state election.
Ahmad Danish Hairudin said PKR had previously relied on its own identity to help Pakatan Harapan (PH) secure a historic victory over Umno and Barisan Nasional (BN) in the 14th General Election (GE14) in 2018.
He said the PKR logo had once represented the aspirations of a large section of Malaysians and played a role in PH’s first federal victory.
“This PKR flag once carried the voice of the Malaysian majority, toppling the arrogance and pride of Umno-BN for the first time at the federal level in 2018.
“It is time for us to return to using PKR’s strength and identity to move forward,” he said while debating the party president’s keynote address at the PKR National Congress today.
During GE14, PH component parties in Peninsular Malaysia contested under the PKR logo because the coalition had yet to receive approval for formal registration. PH parties in Sabah and Sarawak, however, used their respective party logos.
Danish, who is also PKR Youth information chief, said the party did not necessarily need to reconsider its political cooperation with BN but should focus on developing a political direction that reflected PKR’s own interests.
He said grassroots members wanted party president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and the leadership to make firm political decisions that prioritised the party and its supporters.
According to Danish, PKR should not become overly focused on maintaining relationships with other political parties to the extent that its own interests were overlooked.
He said the party congress should send a clear message to its supporters, allies and political opponents about PKR’s position.
“Let the PKR national congress send a clear message: to those who are loyal to us, we appreciate you; to those who are our friends, we respect you; to those who attack us, we will fight back.
“We will fight as we did 20 years ago,” he said.
The remarks come as political parties prepare for the next Melaka state election, which must be held by February 2027, although state leaders have indicated that polling could take place earlier.
The call also highlights growing discussion within PKR over the party’s identity and political strategy as it prepares for the next electoral battle.
