Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has denied any connection to parties mentioned in a reported email linked to the late US financier Jeffrey Epstein.
“It was only today that I found out there is an ‘outside party’ who wanted to meet me and even mentioned my name in the email,” he wrote on his Facebook page yesterday.
“Alhamdulillah, it has been many years, as mentioned in the email, and I have absolutely no connection with any party involved in those emails, especially Epstein. Okay, I want to continue walking around Johor Bahru,” he added.
Anwar’s statement follows calls from Bersatu Youth for the Prime Minister to clarify his alleged interaction, either directly or indirectly, with Epstein, as suggested by documents released by the US Department of Justice (DOJ) as part of the Epstein Files.
Bersatu Youth said the documents reportedly contain information about a 2012 conversation between Epstein and an acquaintance of Anwar, allegedly regarding the arrangement of a personal meeting between Epstein and the Prime Minister.
According to media reports, the DOJ has released the correspondence and related documents as part of its transparency efforts in the ongoing investigation into Epstein.
