Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is expected to announce good news for the Chinese community and Chinese education ahead of the Lunar New Year.
Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming revealed the announcement while delivering a speech at the 2026 Social Youth League Chinese Media Lunar New Year Night, describing it as “good news on top of good news.”
He also hinted that Anthony Loke, Secretary-General of the Democratic Action Party (DAP) and Minister of Transport, would bring additional good news on Saturday. Earlier, Loke said he would attend the “2026 Independent Chinese Secondary School Funding Handover Ceremony” at Pei Feng High School in Malacca, where he would also address topics related to the Unified Examination Certificate (UEC).
Nga, who is also DAP’s Acting Chairman, said both Anwar and Loke would deliver positive news for the Chinese community and Chinese education before the Lunar New Year, though he did not reveal the specifics.
“This is a government that listens to the people and works for the people. The past three years have not been easy,” he said.
He added that the government previously allocated RM50 million for Chinese primary schools, a figure that has increased to RM80 million this year.
“Today, Anwar also announced RM13.5 million in funding for Wen Dong Bo Li Kou Chinese Primary School in Pahang, which means the government’s total allocation for Chinese primary schools this year is approaching RM100 million.”
The funding will be used to construct a special education classroom block, consisting of six classrooms and a preschool class, with construction set to begin this year.
During the event, Social Youth League leaders and representatives from the Chinese media, led by Ng Jia Liang and Nga Kor Ming, exchanged Lunar New Year greetings.
Nga also called on voters to support Pakatan Harapan (PH) in the next general election, aiming for the coalition to win 112 seats and form the government independently.
“This will allow us to implement our reform agenda directly. Our current administration has been constrained — Malaysia has 222 parliamentary seats, and we only have 84, so we are not in a position to govern alone. In the new year, we hope PH can go full force, and we sincerely appeal to voters nationwide to help us win 112 seats, allowing us to govern smoothly and carry out comprehensive reforms,” he said.
Attendees at the event included Social Youth League President Ng Jia Liang, Secretary-General Lim Jun Rong, Publicity Secretary Ho Zi Yang, and Treasurer Chan Wei Yong, as well as representatives from Sin Chew Daily including Deputy Executive Editor Chu Yun Jian, Executive Editor Feng Jia Qi, Assistant News Directors Xu Jun Jie and Chen Xiao Ren.
