Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has urged greater efforts to deepen young Malaysians’ understanding of history as a way to foster patriotism and love for the nation.
Speaking at the launch of the National Historians Council today, Anwar highlighted that while Malaysia advances into the digital age and embraces artificial intelligence (AI), historical knowledge remains essential to guide the younger generation in tackling the country’s challenges.
He emphasized the need to make history more engaging for youth. “The challenge we face is developing a national narrative that can break through these barriers, so historical literacy is nurtured among young people,” he said.
Anwar also stressed the importance of holistic education, combining technology with history, language, culture, religion, and values. “Our AI initiatives will succeed only if we understand our country’s values, morals, and history. Merely copying others’ AI without preserving our identity and strengths, including our history, will only allow external influences to dominate,” he added.
