Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has strongly condemned Israel’s interception of the Global Sumud Flotilla, which was carrying unarmed civilians and humanitarian aid bound for Gaza.
In a statement on his official Facebook page, Anwar described the action as “intimidation and coercion” against a humanitarian mission. He said the flotilla, which included Malaysian activists and volunteers, was carrying life-saving supplies for Palestinians living under blockade.
“I urge for the immediate release of all Malaysian and international activists and volunteers detained by Israel,” Anwar said, adding that the government would do everything possible to secure the freedom and safety of Malaysian citizens involved.
He stressed that by blocking the aid convoy, Israel had shown contempt not only for the fundamental rights of Palestinians but also for the conscience of the international community.
“The flotilla was not merely a humanitarian convoy but a symbol of unity, solidarity and compassion. It carried hope for those who continue to suffer under an inhumane blockade,” Anwar said.
The prime minister also reaffirmed Malaysia’s commitment to holding Israel accountable through all legitimate and lawful means, underscoring that the security and dignity of Malaysians remain a top priority.
“Malaysia will not remain silent while the rights and dignity of our citizens are violated. As long as Palestinians are denied their rights and aspirations, Malaysia will stand firmly with them and continue to demand an end to decades of injustice and dispossession,” he said.
The Global Sumud Flotilla, organised by international activists, was reportedly en route to deliver humanitarian assistance to Gaza before being intercepted by Israeli forces.
