Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has congratulated the Universiti Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC) medical team for successfully performing a liver transplant on a four-month-old baby boy in November.

He said the achievement demonstrated the high level of expertise, professionalism and dedication of Malaysia’s healthcare professionals, particularly in carrying out complex and high-risk medical procedures.
“Congratulations to the medical team at UMMC on this historic success of performing a liver transplant on a four-month-old baby weighing 6.2kg,” Anwar said in a post on X.
Earlier, Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad said the infant, who was suffering from liver failure, underwent the transplant on Nov 25, with the donor being his mother.
Dr Dzulkefly said the surgery was considered highly complex and risky due to the baby’s extremely delicate blood vessels, but it was successfully carried out by a multidisciplinary team of surgeons, anaesthetists and nurses at UMMC.
