Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has called on local authorities to avoid using agents or middlemen in Ramadan bazaar business permit registrations. He highlighted Petaling Jaya City Council’s (MPBJ) online registration system as a model, noting it improves transparency and reduces costs for traders.
Speaking to reporters after Friday prayers at Jumhuriah Mosque, Taman Dato Harun, Anwar said, “The Ramadan bazaar is an opportunity for grassroots people to earn extra income. Local authorities should ensure the process is orderly and stop anyone charging commissions.”
He also instructed authorities to provide clean, proper facilities throughout Ramadan and said he would work with Housing and Local Government Minister Datuk Seri Nga Kor Ming to improve basic amenities, including water supply and cleanliness, at bazaar areas.
Anwar reminded the public to maintain cleanliness under the new Community Service Order (PKM) issued under the Solid Waste Management and Public Cleansing Act 2007 (Act 672), which came into force yesterday, warning that offenders face fines and prosecution.
Ramadan 1, marking the start of the fasting month, is expected on February 19.
