PM Anwar Vows To Strengthen Ties With Sarawak And Sabah Governments

Date:

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has reaffirmed his commitment to further strengthening ties between the Federal Government and the Sabah and Sarawak governments based on mutual respect and trust.

In a Facebook post on Saturday, Anwar said the matter was among several issues discussed during his meeting with Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg and Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor in Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei.

Abang Johari and Hajiji were part of the Malaysian delegation attending the 27th Malaysia-Brunei Annual Leaders’ Consultation (ALC-27).

Anwar said preparations for the upcoming Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) Implementation Action Council meeting were also discussed. The meeting is scheduled to take place in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, within the next few weeks.

“We also exchanged views on several recent developments, while focusing on efforts to strengthen cooperation between the Federal Government, Sarawak and Sabah for the well-being of the people and more equitable and balanced development,” he said.

Meanwhile, Malaysia and Brunei agreed in principle during ALC-27 to facilitate movement between citizens of both countries, including addressing immigration-related matters. Technical committees at the Federal level, in collaboration with Sarawak and Sabah, have also been urged to speed up the processes related to the discussions.

Anwar arrived in Bandar Seri Begawan on Friday for a two-day working visit in conjunction with ALC-27.
