PPP Urges Surprise Inspections On All Care Homes After Selayang Abuse Case

Date:

Parti Progresif Penduduk (PPP) has called on the government to immediately carry out surprise inspections on all childcare centres and elderly care homes to ensure the safety and wellbeing of residents.

Its president, Datuk Dr Loga Bala Mohan, said the call comes in the wake of alleged abuse at an unregistered children’s care centre in Taman Selayang Permata, Batu Caves.

He expressed concern that the home for children was allegedly allowed to operate illegally for nearly 10 years, raising serious questions about enforcement and regulatory oversight by the relevant authorities responsible for licensing.

“Is there a failure in supervision?” he said in a statement today.

He also questioned whether other unregistered childcare facilities may be operating undetected, putting vulnerable children at risk of abuse.

Dr Loga Bala Mohan said it was deeply distressing that children as young as nine were reportedly subjected to prolonged abuse, adding that such incidents should never be allowed to happen.

He praised the police for their swift action in uncovering the case, which led to the rescue and protection of the affected children and teenagers.

He urged the government to strengthen monitoring and enforcement mechanisms to ensure all care homes are properly registered, licensed, and regularly inspected, with zero tolerance for misconduct.

He also called for all illegal premises to be shut down immediately and for those responsible to be brought to justice.

Dr Loga Bala Mohan further urged members of the public to act as the “eyes and ears” of the authorities by reporting any suspected abuse cases, stressing that it is a collective responsibility to protect vulnerable groups.

The remarks come after the Women, Family and Community Development Ministry confirmed that an investigation is underway into the unregistered care centre following abuse allegations. The ministry said it received a report on March 30, prompting immediate action by the Gombak District Social Welfare Department.
